Surfaces (e.g. of panels) of oxymethylene copolymers comprising chains of oxymethylene groups having randomly interposed groups with adjacent carbon atoms (e.g. oxyethylene groups) are coated (e.g. by brushing, spraying or dipping) with a lacquer comprising nitrocellulose dissolved in a solvent, dried and optionally baked. Solvents specified are the acetates of methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl and 2-ethoxyethyl, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, ethyl amyl ketone and tolnol or mixtures thereof. The lacquer may include a polymer of vinyl acetate or butyl methacrylate, or a copolymer of vinyl acetate and butyl or ethyl acrylate, or ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate, or methyl methacrylate, ethyl or butyl acrylate and acrylic acid a diluent (e.g. ubutanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, toluene and xylene), a plasticiser (e.g. disctyl, butyl benzyl or dibutyl phthalate or tricresyl, cresyl diphenyl, or tris-beta-chloroethyl phosphate) and a pigment (e.g. titanium dioxide and carbon black). |
