A vapour burner comprises a perforated ceramic burner plate 18 supplied with oil vapour from a source of pressurized oil 10 through a vaporizing conduit 11 having an outlet nozzle 14 which discharges into a constriction 15 in an air intake pipe 16 communicating with the burner plate, and a heat exchanger 20 heated by waste gases from the burner and/or heat radiated therefrom for preheating the combustion air and/or the oil passing through the conduit 11. Auxiliary heaters such as gas flames or electric elements (not shown) are used to heat the conduit 11 during starting up. The source of pressurized oil 10 may be a gear pump or pressurized oil tank. The burner is ignited by an electrical incandescent spiral 19 located in the burner plate 18. |
