The device has a structural component (2) e.g. hollow body, which is arranged in a region of a motor vehicle (1) i.e. car, present before a windscreen (4) in a driving direction of the vehicle. The component is activatable during detected impact of a pedestrian and automatically positionable over partial regions of A-columns (3) of the vehicle in an activated condition. The component and/or a covering element are positionable over partial regions of the windscreen. The structural component is coupled with an active bonnet (5) of the vehicle activated by a common energy source.
