The method involves attaching a low priority load to an on-board electrical system (10) over a transducer circuit (90). High priority loads (70, 80) are supplied with current via the circuit during failure of supply voltage in the electrical system. Voltage supply to the low priority load is interrupted or reduced by the circuit for providing supply to the high priority load. An on-board voltage plug socket and/or a consumer attached to the plug socket and/or a supply stage for high voltage components e.g. LED or xenon fluorescent lamp ballast, are formed as the low priority load. An independent claim is also included for an on-board electrical system for a motor vehicle comprising two partial electrical systems.
