The method involves scanning a control level to a ground level by a scanning device and monitoring the penetration of the control level by a downward-moved grip arms within a given loading or discharging range. A signal is produced during the penetration of the control level. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control program, which is provided in a control computer; and (2) a monitoring system for a container crane unit.
