PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting a vehicle are provided to detect a vehicle in real time in consideration of the feature, size, and position of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A device(1000) for detecting a vehicle comprises a parallax map generator(1010), a v-displacement map generator(1020), a column detector(1030), and a post processor(1040). The parallax map generator extracts distance information using the time difference information of objects formed on a road image photographed by a stereo camera and generates a parallax map using the distance information. The v-displacement map generator generates a v-displacement map using the parallax map. The column detector detects obstacles by extracting road information from the v-displacement map. The post processor detects a vehicle by detecting the position of the obstacles.
