摘要 878,570. Glass forming and blowing apparatus. OWENS-ILLINOIS GLASS CO. July 23, 1958 [July 25, 1957], No. 23619/58. Class 56. In a two-stage blank-forming and blankblowing apparatus in which a blank mould receives a molten gob and a split neck mould is alignable with the blank mould and moves arcuately to transfer a formed blank from the blank-forming station to the blank-blowing station, springs means are arranged to constantly urge one neck mould section into engagement, and fluid pressure actuated pistons supplement the spring means and urge the neck mould sections together at the blank-forming station but oppose the spring means and urge the sections apart at the blank-blowing station. In a machine embodying the invention, parisons formed in a blank mould unit 10, Fig. 2, from molten gobs supplied through shoots 252 are swung over and inverted into an upright blowing position in a blow mould unit 12 by split neck ring 15. The blank mould initially moves vertically and is subsequently displaced arcuately about the vertical axis 32 to increase the neck mould-to-blank mould clearance when the neck mould is moved arcuately about horizontal axis 220 to the blank-blowing station. The neck rings 15 are held closed under pressure provided by springs 237, 237a, Fig. 6, which, at the blank-forming station is supplemented by pressure from sleeve members 224 and 224a which are actuated by air pressure through conduits 239 into chambers 219, 219a. When pressing is completed at the blank-forming station and at about 90 degrees of the transfer movement of the parison to the blank-blowing station, the supplementary pressure is released. On arrival at the blankblowing station the neck rings 15 are opened by the admission of air through channel 241 into chambers 243, 243a which causes sleeves 224 and 224a to move away from each other and to open the neck rings by sliding them along splines 162 and 162a. The blank mould has baffles 148 which are displaced vertically prior to displacement of blank mould. Coolant air is supplied to the hollow interior of baffles 148 through hollow arm 154. The arms (e.g. 153) carrying the two partible sections of the neck mould 15 are also hollow and a part of the air which is used to produce the moulding pressure of the sections is by-passed and directed into the neck mould for cooling. This application of cooling air continues through a portion of the transfer of the parison and also prior to the return of the neck mould to and during the pressing operation. The walls of the blank mould are surrounded by a cylindrical perforate sleeve, (not shown), for directing coolant air in pre-determined amounts and in patterns varying axially with respect to the elongated blank mould, the blank mould being carried by a hollow arm, (not shown), which directs air to the perforate sleeve. A sleeve may be replaced by a similarly sized sleeve having different perforation patterns to vary the amount of air directed against any portion of the mould walls.
