PURPOSE: A navigation apparatus and method thereof are provided to allow a user to update road information/POI information conveniently by informing update of roads/POI where the user frequently runs. CONSTITUTION: A navigation apparatus comprises a display unit(406), a communication unit(409), and a control unit(408). The display unit displays an update list about an update state of map data included in guide information and receives input of information about at least one road or POI(Point Of Interest) of the update list. The communication unit transmits an update information request message created based on the inputted road or POI information to a server and receives update information transmitted from the server as response of the update information request message. The control unit implements update of stored map data based on the update information.
