PURPOSE: A method for providing a 3D image and a 3D display apparatus is provided to apply a specific format to an input image through the switching into a 3D mode when a specific operation is inputted in a 2D mode. CONSTITUTION: A TV is operated in a 2D mode(S610). If a specific operation is inputted in a 2D mode, the TV switches a display mode into a 3D mode(S620, S630). After the application of a side-by-side format, the TV displays an input image(S640). If the specific operation is inputted again in a 3D mode, the TV applies the top and bottom format to the input image. The TV displays the input image(S650, S660).
