Functional nanomaterials with antibacterial and antiviral activity

Disclosed is a silver ion containing nanocrystalline compound of the formula (I) containing either colloidal silica or titanium dioxide. The substituents are as disclosed in the description. The compounds are useful for antibacterial and antiviral use. Also disclosed are a composition and a dermatological composition comprising a compound according to formula (I). Further disclosed is the use of a compound of formula (I) for the manufacture of an antibacterial or antiviral medicament or the nonmedical use of a compound of formula (I). The method of rejuvenating a nanocrystalline compound of formula (I) is also disclosed.
