An apparatus for injecting discrete predetermined amounts of material, such as the fumigant iodomethane, at a plurality of predetermined points into the soil includes a container of the material connected by at least one tube 209 to at least one electrically controlled injector 212 which is detachably mounted to an injector mounting element 203 at the base 202 of a soil penetrating shank. As the shank is drawn through the soil a controller activates the electrically controlled injector to inject a predetermined amount of the material into the soil at predetermined points in the soil.
