An apparatus and method for voltage controlling used in a portable electronic device are provided to save electric power, thereby avoiding the problem of prior arts. The portable electronic device is capable of establishing a connection with an external device. The apparatus comprises a detector and a voltage selector. The detector is for detecting whether the connection is established, so as to generate a control signal accordingly. The voltage selector is for selecting a voltage from a first voltage and a second voltage based on the control signal, wherein the first voltage is lower than the second voltage.
