Provided is a meshing-chain type advancing/retracting actuation apparatus provided with a pair of meshing chains (150), a drive sprocket (140) which drives one of the pair of meshing chains (150) in such a manner that the one is able to freely advance and retract, and a chain guide (190) which, by positioning the other one of the meshing chains (150) with respect to the one of the meshing chains (150) that is driven by the drive sprocket (140) and causing the other one to mesh with the one, causes the other one to move in a such a manner as to follow movement of the one, wherein the drive sprocket (140) and the chain guide (190) are arranged at deflection positions in such a manner as to face each other, the deflection positions each being located between a direction into which the pair of meshing chains (150) mesh with each other, and a corresponding one of directions into which the meshing chains (150) branch from each other.
