The engine (1) has an exhaust gas recirculation system (2) and an air supply line (5) for supplying air to a combustion chamber of the engine. An exhaust gas recirculation line (3) flows into an inlet opening (4) in the air supply line. A flow guiding element (6) e.g. plate, arranges the inlet opening oppositely in the air supply line and exhibits a deflector surface (7) for exhaust gas flowing into the air supply line. The flow guiding element is arranged in the line in a free cross section such that the supplied fresh air flows on both sides of the guiding element through the line.
