<p>Disclosed is a process for producing a biaryltetrazole derivative or a salt thereof which is useful as an intermediate for the production of an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist. The process is characterized by comprising: 1) reacting an aryltetrazole derivative represented by general formula [II] with a benzene derivative represented by general formula [III] to produce a compound represented by general formula [IV]; 2) (a) deprotecting the compound represented by general formula [IV] when R2 in the compound represented by general formula [IV] is a methyl group that is substituted by a hydroxy group protected by a protecting group, or (b) reducing the compound represented by general formula [IV] to produce a compound represented by general formula [V] when the above-mentioned R2 is a lower alkoxycarbonyl group; and 3) haloganating the compound represented by general formula [IV] when R2 in the compound represented by general formula [IV] is a methyl group, or halogenating the compound represented by general formula [V] when R2 in the compound represented by general formula [IV] is a methyl group that is substituted by a hydroxy group protected by a protecting group or a lower alkoxycarbonyl group (in the formulae, each symbol is as defined in the description).</p> |
