Disclosed is a display panel device which comprises: an organic EL element (13); a capacitor (14); a drive transistor (11) which has the gate connected to a first electrode of the capacitor (14) and supplies drain current to the organic EL element (13); a selection transistor (12) which controls the conduction between a data line (20) that supplies a signal voltage and the first electrode of the capacitor (14); a switching transistor (16) which controls the conduction between the source of the drive transistor (11) and a second electrode of the capacitor (14); and a drive circuit which turns on the selection transistor (12) when the switching transistor (16) is in the ON state in order to supply a signal voltage to the first electrode of the capacitor (14), thereby supplying electric current between the source of the drive transistor (11) and the second electrode of the capacitor (14) for a predetermined period, and then turns off the switching transistor (16) in order to electrically disconnect the source of the drive transistor (11) and the second electrode of the capacitor (14).
