PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology which does not cause an obstacle to operation even if an erroneous bar code which should not be originally read is attached to merchandise. SOLUTION: This POS system holds a merchandise file in which merchandise data and a code for merchandise registration are stored in association, when a bar code attached to merchandise is read by a reading recognition part, reads the merchandise data associated with the code for merchandise registration matched with a recognition code recognized from the bar code from the merchandise file, and performs merchandise registration. The POP system is provided with: a storage means for storing an inhibition code and guidance information for guiding the bar code to be read in association; and a notification means for reading the guidance information associated with the inhibition code from the storage means when the recognition code recognized from the bar code read by the reading recognition part is matched with the inhibition code stored in the storage means, and notifying a customer of the guidance information.
