<p>The type of fuel is determined on the basis of the relationship between the actual amount of fuel injected to a combustion chamber and a torque generated in accordance with the actual amount of fuel injection. Further, a preliminary injection is performed in a combustion configuration suitable for the property value of the determined fuel, to optimize the preheating in a cylinder. In the fuel having an excellent ignition performance, the beginning of a preliminary injection is set on the side of the angle of delay. In the fuel by which a large engine torque can be obtained with respect to the actual amount of fuel injection, the amount of the preliminary injection is set to be small (the duration of fuel injection is set to be short). Thus, the exhaust emission or engine properties can be improved.</p> |
