<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backplane for use in an electro-optic display. <P>SOLUTION: The backplane (100, 200, 300, 400) for use in the electro-optic display includes a patterned metal foil having a plurality of apertures extending therethrough, coated on at least side with an insulating polymeric material (104, 106, 108) and having a plurality of thin film electronic elements (302, 402) provided on the insulating polymeric material (104, 106, 108). This invention relates to the flexible electronic circuit and the display. More specifically, the invention relates to the circuit and the display using an electro-optic medium. The invention relates to a process for manufacturing the electro-optic display on a curved surface. The curved surface can be curved one dimensionally or two dimensionally.
