PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a conventional mechanical brake device wherein oil in an oil-retaining bush or oil applied to a bush leaks out depending on the working situation or working environment of a hoisting machine and infiltrates between contact surfaces of a brake disk and a ratchet wheel to lower the frictional resistance of the brake disc. SOLUTION: A mechanical brake for the hoisting machine is adapted to support the inner periphery of a ratchet wheel 6 by an oil-retaining bush 8 in a boss 4a between a driving member 2 and a brake carrier 4 of the hoisting machine and to interpose brake discs 7 between both side faces of the ratchet wheel 6 and oil-retaining bush 8 and side faces of the driving member 2 and brake carrier 4.
