<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder capable of improving the transferability of an intermediate image to a recessed part of a surface of a recording medium, and capable of recording a high-quality image on a recording medium with a large surface roughness. <P>SOLUTION: The image recorder discharges ink from a recording head 205 to form the intermediate image on the surface of an intermediate transfer body 203, and transcribes the intermediate image formed on the surface of the intermediate transfer body to the recording medium 208. The intermediate transfer body is formed of a rubber elastomer and a thermally expansible microcapsule 103 is formed in the intermediate transfer body.
