The invention relates to a lighting unit (10) for a carrier or supply system (T) for medical-electric devices, comprising: a luminaire frame (1) for receiving a lamp (2), at least one lamp (2) arranged on the luminaire frame, a luminaire cover (3) for covering the lamp, and fastening means (4) for fastening the frame (1) to the medical carrier or supply system. An assembly of the luminaire frame (1), the at least one lamp (2) and the lamp cover (3) creates a flat and space-saving profile for the lighting unit (10). The lighting unit (10) is designed for retrofitting on a substantially horizontal surface of the carrier or supply system (T) as floor lighting or as ceiling lighting.
