PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound useful as a therapeutic agent for pain and inflammation caused by various diseases, such as neurogenic pain and rheumatoid arthritis. SOLUTION: The compound is an N-benzyl amide derivative represented by formula (I) [wherein R<SP>1</SP>is methoxy, OH or H; R<SP>2</SP>is H, alkyl, alkylcarbonyl or arylcarbonyl; and D is represented by formula (A)-(C) äwherein R<SP>3</SP>is a hydrocarbon group chosen from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and alkenylalkynyl, provided that the group is optionally substituted 3-8C cycloalkyl or optionally substituted aryl}] or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof.
