PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil burning appliance which shortens an extinction time in extinction, and reduces smell in extinction. SOLUTION: Since a hole 28 for a tapered section is formed on a position above part where the lower end of a fire bowl section 5 and a lower part of the tapered section 27 of a wick guide outer cylinder 3 are kept into contact with each other, at a height approximately the same as the intermediate part of the tapered section 27, the cooling air flows into the space between a wick guide inner cylinder and the wick guide outer cylinder through the hole 28 for the tapered section in extinction, thus the fire remaining in the space is extinguished and the extinction time can be shortened. Further since a fuel oil accumulated in a flange section 26 flows between the wick guide inner cylinder and the wick guide outer cylinder at once through the hole 28 for the tapered section, and is recovered in extinction, preventing the smell caused by the evaporation of the fuel oil accumulated in the flange section 26.
