PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable data processing from a host apparatus for an external storage device, with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: Information that there is an ODD (Optical Disk Device) storage is sent to a PC irrespective of whether or not an ODD is connected as a storage device to a printer, data responsive to "Inquiry" requesting the acquisition of storage device information is initialized to temporary information using device information about the printer (S110), the initialized temporary information is sent in response to a device information acquisition request from the PC, the data responsive to "Inquiry" is updated with ODD device information when an ODD is connected (S120, 130), and the correct information can be sent in response to a device information acquisition request from the PC to permit access from the PC (S150), so that the printer can be recognized as an ODD by the PC to appropriately handle a data processing request.
