PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate check work on whether or not a rubber ring is placed in the stipulated position of a pipe joint which is structured so that a spigot formed on an end of one pipe is inserted within a socket formed in an end of the other pipe and the rubber ring for sealing is compressed between an inner circumferential surface of the socket and an outer circumferential surface of the spigot. SOLUTION: This checking device includes: a body 22; an insertion piece 23 being mounted on the body 22 while being insertable into a gap 16 between the socket 2 and the spigot 4 from outside the socket 2 and being allowed to strike the rubber ring 10 at the time of insertion; a projecting rod 24 projecting from the body 22 while being allowed to get into the body 22 by an amount corresponding to the insertion amount of the insertion piece 23 by striking the socket 2 when the insertion piece 23 is inserted into the gap 16; and a signal generation means 54 generating a signal corresponding to the getting-in amount of the projecting rod 24 into the body 22.
