The present invention pertains to an apparatus for the preparation of coloured ice cubes (100, 100′, 100″), comprising, a connection for a water supply (10), a heating means (20), which is connected thereto, an array of two or more colour recipients (50, 50′, 50″), at least one freezing means (70, 70′, 70″) for preparing coloured ice cubes (100, 100′, 100″), which is connected to at least one of the water outlets (54, 54′, 54″) of the colour recipients (50, 50′, 50″) and a cooling means (30), which is connected to the connection for the water supply (10) and to the freezing means (70, 70′, 70″). The invention further relates to a method for operating said apparatus.
