PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recorder keeping high image grade even in the leading and tail part where image quality deterioration tends to occur and balancing the recording grade with the recording speed to have high usability. SOLUTION: In the recording of the leading and tail part where is not supported by both transporting means of the upstream side and the down stream side in the recording medium transporting direction to the recording position, the recording width of a recording head (practically the number of nozzles for discharging ink) is reduced and at the same time, the quantity of the recording medium to be transported is reduced. The rate of the reduction is changed to properly match the size of the recording medium and to respond to the need of a user such that the priority is given to the recording speed or recording grade.
