Coke ovens.-In a chamber oven plant for the manufacture of gas and coke, wide variations in the demand for gas are allowed for by varying the coking time of some or all of the ovens by means of group control devices in the air, gas, and waste gas flues. With a fall in the demand for gas these controls are set to double the coking time of one or more of the groups, the controls being operated in succession, starting with those farthest from the chimney. The gas and air are supplied under pressure.</p> |
