<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the capacity of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst using a perovskite type composite oxide. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst layer 2 of a carrier 1 includes Rh doped CeZr type composite oxide powder, noble metal (at least one of Pt and Pd) supported heat-resistant powder and perovskite type composite oxide powder and comprises a single layer or a plurality of layers 2a and 2b.
