PURPOSE: A cubic image compression device and method thereof are provided to use contour information. CONSTITUTION: A cubic image compression device(100) includes a contour detection device(130), a quantum parameter offset determining unit(140), a resolution minimizing unit(150), and a depth image encoding unit(170). The contour detection device detects contour information about a decoded color image. The quantum parameter offset determining unit determines quantum parameter offset of a depth image block. The resolution minimizing unit minimized a resolution of a depth image block. The depth image encoding unit encodes the depth image block which a resolution is minimized according to the determined quantum parameter offset.
