The invention relates to a vertical support structure comprising: a plurality of substantially flat vertical panels (Pi), each panel having a thickness of between 40mm and 240mm and including (i) two parallel outer metal sheets (10, 12) having a thickness of between 4/10th and 16/10th mm and (ii) an expanded plastic foam filling (14) injected between said sheets (10, 12), whereby the panels (Pi) define a closed polygonal contour and each panel (Pi) forms the entire height of the structure for the part of the structure formed thereby; linking elements (32, 36, 38) attached at least to the lower part (30) and the upper part (34) of the panels (Pi); and non-vertical interconnection means (42) between at least some non-aligned panels (Pi), said interconnection means (42) being attached to the panels (Pi) above the lower end (30) thereof.
