<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus reducing a use amount of boron nitride and suppressing degradation in image quality even when being used for a long time, and a process cartridge and an image forming method. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes a photoreceptor 60, a charging roller 40 charging the photoreceptor 60, an exposure device exposing the charged photoreceptor 60 and forming an electrostatic latent image, a developing device 50 developing the electrostatic latent image formed on the photoreceptor 60 with the usage of a developer including toner and forming a toner image, a transfer roller transferring the toner image formed on the photoreceptor 60 to a transfer medium, a cleaning device 10 cleaning the photoreceptor 60 to which the toner image is transferred, and a protective agent application device 20 applying a protective agent including metallic soap to the cleaned photoreceptor 60.
