PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a playback device that can prevent playback instability and halt, even when a playback means does not have a capacity to check an unstable stream. SOLUTION: A VirtualFileSystem part changes the state of remaining AVCLip to an enable status of being recognizable by a PlaybackControlEngine or a disable status of being recognizable by the PlaybackControlEngine according to a method call by application, while playback processing for part of the AVCLip out of stream sequences is continued. A change to a recognition enable status is performed by generating virtual volume management information from file management information on a BD-ROM and file management information in LocalStorage 18 and delivering it to the PlaybackControlEngine, and a change to a recognition disable status is performed by removing the file management information in the LocalStorage 18 from the virtual volume management information.
