PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte composition used for depositing metals onto substrates. SOLUTION: The electrolyte composition is particularly suitable for deposition of metals, in particular silver, onto solar cells. The electrolyte composition is preferably free of cyanides and contains an iminodisuccinate derivative represented by formula (1), wherein each of R1, R2, R5 and R6 is selected from a group consisting of O, N and S and each of R3, R4, R7 and R8 is selected from a group consisting of OH, NH<SB>2</SB>, SH, O- and S-.
