A fuel cell operates with a catalyst suspended in the electrolyte, the catalyst ionizing the fuel and the oxidant and conveying the electric charges to the electrodes by physical contact. Preferably centrifugal forces set up by operating with tangential inflow of electrolyte into a tubular cell. Pumps 86 circulate electrolyte past electrodes 82, 84, a diaphragm 83 preventing mixing of the fuel and the oxidant. The reactants may be added to electrolyte outside the cell and the catalyst particles may also be changed outside the cell. In another embodiment (not shown) a helical arrangement of the two electrolyte chambers is used thus giving an extended contact area for the electrodes. |
