Provided are a receiver apparatus and a reception method whereby the calculation amount can be reduced, the process delay can be reduced and a high signal separation performance can be achieved. The reception method is characterized by: receiving a signal including a plurality of codewords transmitted in a plurality of streams; performing a maximum likelihood detection type of signal separation in the same codeword of the received signal; and performing a successive interference canceler type of signal separation between different codewords.
