PURPOSE: A rope braking device for an elevator is provided to automatically stop an elevator. CONSTITUTION: Support frames(120) are fixed to the internal circumference of a pair of fixing frames. An operating unit is installed between the support frames to lock or unlock a rope. A control unit controls the operating unit. The support frame includes a side plate fixed to the internal circumference of a fixing frame of both sides of the support frame.
