A cradle assembly for a pair of drafting rolls each having an apron thereabout comprises an element 26, 28 which has surfaces on either side of a nose 52 to guide and clean the apron running about its associated roll (14) (Figs. 1 and 2 not shown) and a surface 46 to clean said roll, wall members 32, 34 attached to the element 26, 28, and an element 30 which guides and cleans the apron (24) passing about the other roll (16), the element 30 having connecting means 85, 86 on each side to engage slots 88 in the walls 32, 34 and maintain the separation of the walls constant. As shown the element 26, 28 is preferably in two, push fit parts to facilitate the moulding of the cradle and its assembly. In other forms (Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 13 not shown) each wall member is a push fit on a central, hollow part. When mounted in a drafting assembly the cradle is positioned (see Fig. 2 not shown) so that the element 30 bears against the fibre contacting run of the belt only in the region of its nose portion; in addition the surface 56 contacting the lower belt is bevelled at 58; consequently fibre bundles of different diameter may be drafted. In Figs. 7, 8, 9 not shown, a cradle for use with longer staple fibres is shown in which a support bar (104) is provided for the front end of the cradle. The lower open element is in two parts (260, 280) joinable by co-operated pegs (106), and holes (108) and the upper apron member (300) has stub shafts (114) which are a snap fit into resilient openings (118, 120) in the wall members (320, 340). In this form the rear drafting rollers (10, 12) (Fig. 1) may be dispersed with. In Figs. 10, 11, 12 not shown, the cradle of Fig 2 is shown fitted to a conventional drawing head having twin top rollers carried on a pivotable weighting arm it being shown how the upper apron element 30 disengages from the lower element 26, 28 as the weighting arm is upwardly pivoted. The cradle is preferably of a readily mouldable plastics material e.g. nylon or acetal resin.</p>
