PURPOSE: A liquid crystal aligning agent and a liquid crystal alignment layer are provided to obtain a liquid crystal display with high voltage holding rate, excellent heat reliability and light resistance. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal aligning agent contains a polymer component A as an essential ingredient and a polymer component B as an arbitrary component. The polymer component A is polyamic acids or derivatives obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic dianhydride with a diamine mixture including at least one diamine represented by chemical formula (1) and the other diamines. The polymer component B is polyamic acids or derivatives obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic dianhydride with at least one of the other diamines.
