[Also in Division H1] A casing for a semi-conductor device comprises a metal cap (Fig. 4, not shown, preferably of mild steel, copper, or aluminium) sealed by cold pressure welding to a mild steel flange 2 on a mild steel collar 1 surrounding a glass seal 6 through which pass lead wires (such as 4, 5) for the semi-conductor device; the collar 1 has an extension of reduced thickness between the flange 2 and the glass-to-metal seal so that the cutaway region 3 allows movement of metal away from the area of cold pressure welding without damage to the glass seal 6. |
