<p>An article for being worn on the lower torso of the wearer, such as a disposable protective undergarment like diapers, incontinence articles, training pants, menstrual pants etc., comprises a centre strip 1010 extending from the front through the crotch to the back and side panels 1054, 1055, 1056. The centre strip and side panels form a waist hoop. The centre strip and side panels have corresponding first and second surfaces. At the transition 1110 between the centre strip and the side panels, the first surfaces of the side panel and the centre strip are abutted to and connected to themselves or are abutted to and connected to each other or the second surfaces of the side panel and the centre strip are abutted to and connected to themselves or are abutted to and connected to each other. The arrangement provides for better fit and ease of manufacture. Each of the side panels may be arranged to extend towards and beyond the longitudinally extending centre line of the centre strip and the side panels and centre region may be formed by a double (z-folded) pleat. Also disclosed are a continuous process for forming the article characterised by positioning of the side panels and a method characterised by forming a double pleat fold.</p> |
