[Also in Division G1] In a powered screw driver or spanner, torque is transmitted from a motor driven shaft 5 to a shaft 8 connected to the socket of a tool head through an apertured, tubular spindle 3. Axial deformation of the spindle 3 is sensed pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically to provide an indication of the torque applied and may turn a lamp on or off when a minimum torque is attained, actuate a relay, to cut out the motor when a predetermined maximum value is attained or control the motor in correspondence with the torque up to the maximum allowable. A plurality of such tools may be used to tighten the nuts on a cylinder head in a predetermined sequence. A prestressing device may be used to reduce the control range and eliminate oscillation below the prestressed value of torque.</p> |
