PURPOSE: An encoding apparatus and method using an adaptive interpolation filter are provided to increase a compression efficiency by selecting a dictionary among a plurality of dictionaries. CONSTITUTION: An image encoding apparatus comprises a dictionary storage(11) for storing one or more dictionaries, a sub pixel interpolation part(13) for interpolating a sub pixel between unit pixels by searching an optimal filter coefficient from the dictionary storage, a vector movement estimation unit(15) for estimating the sub pixel movement vector, and a encoding unit(17) for encoding the reference image and estimating the movement of the sub pixel based on the sub pixel movement vector. |
