PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling iterative decoding in a turbo decoder are provided to improve the throughput performance and a frame error rate by adjusting a turbo repeat frequency. CONSTITUTION: A controller confirms the HARQ information for the HARQ data(502), and the initial or retransmission of the HARQ data are judged(504). The controller confirms whether or not the HARQ information indicates the last transmission for a specific packet(510). The controller confirms the last transmission of the current HARQ information(514), and determines the maximum repeat frequency as the value increased as much as a certain unit based on a predetermined value(516).
