Compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0949153/C2/1> in which R is a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon, alkoxy, or acyl radical, and x is a number from 0 to 10 are prepared by reacting a 1,3,5-trimethylene-trisulphone with epichlorohydrin in a solution that contains an alkali metal hydroxide. The 1,3,5-trimethylene-trisulphone may be substituted with an unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical which can be further cured or condensed, e.g. allyl, cyclopentyl, or benzyl. The reaction may be in aqueous alkali metal hydroxide medium which can include a water soluble organic solvent, and preferably at -10 DEG to +60 DEG C.ALSO:Compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0949153/C3/1> in which R is a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon, alkoxy, or acyl radical, and x is a number from 0 to 10 are prepared by reacting a 1, 3, 5-trimethylene - trisulphone with epichlorohydrin in a solution that contains an alkali metal hydroxide. The diepoxides may be cured by admixture with primary, secondary, or tertiary amines or acid anhydrides, e.g. phthalic anhydride or pyromellitic anhydride. They may also be esterified by drying or non-drying fatty acids to produce lacquers. Resins prepared from 1, 3, 5-trimethylene - trisulphone which contain an unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical e.g. allyl, cyclopentyl or benzyl can be cured with peroxides, or further condensed, after reaction with unsaturated fatty acids, and then cured or simultaneously cured as above.ALSO:A coating composition for glass or metal surfaces is produced by hardening a compound of the general formula: <FORM:0949153/B1-B2/1> in which R is a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon, alkoxy, or acyl radical, and x is a number from 0 to 10, e.g. by using a primary, secondary, or tertiary amine or an acid anhydride. In an example 1 g of a diepoxide (x=1) and 0,3 g hexamethylene diamine are dissolved in 8 c.c. dimethylformamide; a film of 0,2 mm. thickness is applied to glass and cured at 100 DEG C. in a vacuum drying cabinet. |
