A diesel fuel formulation containing (i) a lower molecular weight dialkyl carbonate (DAC) selected from dimethyl carbonate (DMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC) and mixtures thereof; (ii) di-n-butyl carbonate (DBC); and optionally (iii) an additional diesel fuel component. Also provided is the use of DBC, in a diesel fuel formulation containing DMC and/or DEC, for the purpose of increasing the flash point of the formulation. The flash point increase may be greater than theory would have predicted; the DBC may therefore be used at a lower concentration than theory would have predicted to be necessary, in order to achieve a target flash point X.
