PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling uplink transmission power in a communication system are provided to perform a differentiated transmission power control operation to each channel. CONSTITUTION: If a channel signal to be transmitted is a first channel signal, a control unit(313) determines the uplink transmission power of the first channel signal by using an open power control scheme. If the channel signal to be transmitted is a second channel signal, the control unit determines the power control scheme by cutting off the uplink transmission power of the second channel signal. A power adjustment unit(317) adjusts the uplink transmission power of the corresponding channel signal under the control of the controller, and a transmitter transmits the corresponding channel signal according to the control operation of the control unit by using the adjusted uplink transmission power.
