A photographic flash device for use with a flashlamp unit having a plurality of flash lamps with individual reflectors 7 Fig 1 (not shown) has a block 43 Fig. 3 on which the unit is mounted for rotation to bring each flash lamp into firing position in which the lamp in such position engages terminal means included in a flash circuit. The block 43 is rotated by a hook 48 engaging one of several pins 50. The hook 48 is actuated through shutter actuating lever 4 rocked by tab 24 of film advance lever 2. An arresting mechanism 66 prevents further rotation of the block 43 upon actuation of lever 2 until shutter actuating lever 4 is released to permit hook 48 to reengage a pin 50.
