The method involves reconstituting three-dimensional form of a body part i.e. finger, of a person from an image of venous plexus of the body part. The three-dimensional form of the body part is developed under the form of the developed image. The image of the venous plexus is projected under the form of the flat image with known and constant resolution at any point in the venous plexus on the developed image. The flat image is compared with the reference image. A determination is made to check whether to identity or authenticate the person based on the comparison of the images. An independent claim is also included for a person identification/authentication system comprising a capturing device, a three-dimensional imaging device and a processing and controlling unit.
